This babydoll sheep was born at the Children's Zoo on Saturday, August 27, 2011, the day Hurricane Irene hit New York City. Her name is Irene Hope, born to mother Truffle and father Sid. The family is doing fine and is awaiting your visit.
The Central Park Zoo is saddened to report that its beloved polar bear, Ida, died on June 3 at an advanced age. At 25 years old, Ida was an older bear. Polar bears live in the wild an average of 18 years.
New to the Central Park Zoo, youngsters Edith, 9 months, and Katie, 2 years, were born at the New York Aquarium and Bronx Zoo, respectively. Both are named in honor of long-standing WCS trustees—Edith McBean and Katherine L. (Katie) Dolan.
